Infographic – 8 basic ways to get your press release read

8 BASIC WAYS TO GET YOUR PRESS RELEASE READ

  1. Make sure that the NEWS is really NEWS
It’s not enough to have a message that you want to tell the reader – the reader has to feel that the contents are really news. When people take time to read the news in your press release they are exchanging their time and effort for your message. If a press release doesn’t make them curious or doesn’t seem relevant to them that exchange won’t happen.
  2. Have one central message
To be effective press releases need to be like news stories, after reading one you want the reader to have learned the point of the story (i.e. your marketing message). If the release contains too many products, too many messages at the same time, or doesn’t appear to have point then the reader simply won’t know what you are really trying to say.
  3. Do the research
Reporters research news stories to make sure that they don’t make embarrassing mistakes. Do the same thing and remember to read your competitors’ releases so that you can write a better release and know exactly how to make your product sound more attractive.
  4. Use an interesting headline
If your headline makes the press release sound uninteresting no one is going to read it because no one is going to look passed the dull headline – which means you’ve just wasted a lot of time and an opportunity. Work to create a headline that’s relevant to your readers and interesting enough for them to want to read more.

How do we see the world now? The five stages that everybody goes through in recessionland.

“I’m late, the bubble’s about to burst!” said the banker

Everything we knew about ourselves and our customers is now wrong, the recession changed it all. Steve Wallace of National Chiao-Tung University and Bob Cook of Convince discuss the 5 psychological stages of the recession and how they affect business and business relationships.

There we were sitting on the river bank enjoying the pleasures of economic prosperity when up popped a banker saying “I’m late, the bubble’s about to burst”. A few seconds later the banker had disappeared down a large rabbit hole. In another moment down we went after it, never once considering how in the world we were to get out again. Unfortunately unlike Alice in Wonderland our rabbit hole is very real. We still seem to be falling unable to reach the bottom. Just like Alice the world we’ll find at the bottom is bound to be very different from our own world.

The death of the Caps Lock key
(or a keyboard remap for writers)

There is nothing worse than looking up in the middle of writing to find that the text is ALL IN CAPITALS. I know used the Caps Lock to enter a model name a page ago, but just because I forgot to tap it again it seems unfair to transform my beautiful words into unreadable ugliness.

So after quick visit to Ms Google,  some trial and error, and a few minutes with notepad here are a few changes to the way the keyboard is mapped. I hope that you find the changes useful.
